Poetry In Motion

Poetry In Motion

Recently we have maxed up the production equipment we use for filming, which has given us so much scope for delivering unrivalled footage for clients. With a complete production crew, amazing cameras including head cams and superb editing suite  even our cutting room floor is offering us video material which we think is stunning.

This Slow Motion piece really is Poetry in Motion, beautiful footage with the opportunity to really see horse and rider in harmony, powerful yet elegant, strong yet effortless.

Enjoy !

Public Relations not just Press Releases

Public Relations is not just Press Releases.

What is PR, public relations? The simplest answer is exactly that, what is my relationship with the public. How do the public, my customers see my service, my company or my product? Hard working freelancers and agencies are often only seen as the people who write the press releases but behind the scenes the PR pro’ can be relied upon to deliver so much more and this is where PR starts.

A good PR specialist will spend time looking at every aspect of your business and product. It’s simply not good enough to have a great product if the service or public face does not deliver the same message. “ My product speaks for itself”, that’s great but what if nobody is listening? Be warned a good PR specialist may not always tell you what you want to hear.

Time in the beginning should be spent getting to know each other, your business, and your expectation. These are my favorite words, expectation and the managing there of; it’s the only way to a start a productive relationship. As the client, you should know exactly what you are getting into and more importantly exactly what you should be expecting to get out of this.

With all the niceties out the way, and your soul laid bare it will be time to put together a strategy which includes all levels of your service and product, including everything from your point of sale material through to your website. This communication audit should be seen as setting your standard, an opportunity to bring all elements or faucets of your business into line. The website supports sales, literature supports website and so on and so forth. Messages are then reinforced from print to purchase.

It is important to recognise that from the inside looking out your message to your consumer could be getting muddled. Look from the outside in, this is an important part of the process and may cause a little friction if you insist on using the logo, strap line, colours that your neighbour, Aunty or son, kindly designed with clipart way back when. Remember, we are still trying to get to PR. Your public image must represent your message and brand from the inside out.

With your strategy in place it’s important to stay on track and stay together, keep the lines of communication wide open. You will need updates from your PR specialist but equally they will need updates from you. Pass on news, however small and insignificant you may think it is, it’s up to your PR specialist to make this (within reason) into something news worthy, relevant and part of your strategy.

Which brings us to the written word of PR, the power of the press release. A timely, relevant, newsworthy press release combined with personal endorsements and quotes, hits the spot. Sounds simple enough! However the question should always be, are you submitting news or just a blatant product plug? Not wishing to burst any bubbles here but our editors do know the difference and they know what their readers want to read and what they don’t. There is always a place for a blatant plug within product feature pages but to be news worthy of editorial it has to be a story of interest and so we come full circle to Public Relations or just press releases.

Your press releases should be the icing on the cake at the end of a well thought out plan or objective. A quality piece of news which outshines the masses. Adhoc or spontaneous news aside, your planned release has only one shot under the scrutiny of the discerning editor, so needs to be pitch perfect. So the creating, fuelling and connecting of these stories in order to reach that perfect pitch for print becomes as important a part of the process as the press release itself.  It is this factor that should also be taken into consideration when you are deciding if Public Relations is for you and how it can be used within your business.

Mindful now of my 800 word window it looks as though quality V’s quantity, supporting your press release through online media and enough of the boring product shots will all have to wait for another day!

Equine Events & PR welcomes Emily to the Team

Jo and I are very pleased to welcome Emily Huxtable on board as part of our team. As a graduate from the University College of Falmouth, Emily has now joined us as our expert in new Digital Media & Broadcasting. (No pressure then!)

She has gained a vast amount of experience working in a variety of Television production companies, including Golden Square Post Production in London, a state of the art visual effects company who work on international advertising campaigns for the likes of Coca-Cola & Sky to name but a few.

With a long history with horses, steeped within West Kent Meopham Pony Club competing in a variety of disciplines, she is in a perfect position to combine her television broadcasting experience with her passion for horses.

This is an exciting prospect for us, we are looking forward to further developing the video capabilities of Equine Events & PR and offering our clients the very best in media and video production.

We stole this photograph whilst she protested, “ I am much better with technology and happier behind than the camera than in front of it”.

Emile Faurie Fly’s the Flag for the UK in style.

I have just put the phone down to an ecstatic Emile.  It was only last month that the article in Your Horse magazine began with the words ‘Emile has just returned from Germany where Max showed the judges just what a hot head he could be rather than what an exceptional mover he is’ and that he was worried it could damage his chances for team selection…..

Then, after Aachen he got the call from Will Connell of the BEF to say your on the team!  I was in the car when he rang me and in true Emile style calm as you like very gently just said ‘guess what’ ‘go on’ I replied – ‘im on the team’ !!!!
All I can say is thank god I was at traffic lights and not moving and sorry to the driver next to me who thought I was having a fit while I was screaming into my hands free!!!!

Then, the call came to say there was an appeal – we couldn’t believe it, but as usual the most dignified man I know just kept his cool, didn’t make a fuss and we decided that day that there was no way this was going to stop him.  So the shopping list was written and the support just began to flood in.  THANK YOU to all those that stepped up and helped us, we only had 10 days to organise everything and the whole time Emile got up every morning and trained with Max in preparation.  Every day we spoke and he said Max is just spectacular, he is on form and looking fantastic.
The appeal was overruled a few days before departure.

Max left the yard Saturday lunch time with International groom EJ and Emile flew out Sunday.  I rang him Sunday morning just to say good luck and just do your thing,  I wasn’t sure how he was feeling and I can’t tell you how pleased I was to hear what he had to say – “Jo, I am just totally overwhelmed by the support I have had, I am just sitting here at the kitchen table ready to leave and I can tell you I have never been more ready, more focused and more determined going into a championship”

So, now here we are on the phone to each other screaming with excitement again! (well I was screaming, Emile was just quietly giggling actually)

When we finally came back down to earth on the phone  here is what Emile had to say -

“I’m excited, delighted, exhausted & relieved!  I am totally thrilled to score over 70%.  Max was awesome and stayed with me, we were third to go and what a huge electric stadium that is for his first Championship.

I’m Really chuffed!  Max stayed relaxed and concentrated through the whole test. We had a small blip going into the arena where there’s a lot going on but as soon as I turned left I knew I had him with me. Everyone knows he is a hot, excitable horse but he has masses of talent. We’ve had a good season, both of us have come here well prepared and this has been our aim for the year.

Of course our ultimate goal is London but there are so many brilliant combinations in Britain we’re really going to have to go some to make the cut. We had to get a championships under our belt to even put ourselves in with a chance.

I knew I would be first to go for the team and that we had to get a solid base score on the board so I’m really proud of the horse for what he did today. I’m certain there is at least another 5% in him and his owner Joanne has always believed in him.

I am so proud of Max I can’t tell you!!!  I came here with a job to do and we produced a solid test for the team.   We had a couple of mistakes which cost us a few marks but that is just dressage!

I can’t thank you all enough for the all the messages and support”.

We always knew he could do it and I am sitting here writing this feeling like a proud mother!!!

COME ON TEAM GB LETS HAVE THAT GOLD AND REALLY PUT DRESSAGE ON THE MAP!

Greenwich Test Event for 2012

At the end of day one of the test event at Greenwich I have to say that I am completely won over and can’t wait to see this site transformed for next year’s Olympics. Any misgivings have dissolved amongst the breath taking views and atmospheric back drop, this really does put a new spin on rural chic! Sun drenched in all its glory the dressage phase was superb. Anyone waiting for the but?…….. it was such a shame that the stands weren’t full, it was disappointing not to have the stands teaming with people and the park buzzing. LOCOG should of had the courage of their convictions and gone for it, opened the doors and let the crowds in. This would have been a great opportunity for the public at large to see how and why our riders are the best in the world especially on home turf.    To give you a sense of how quiet it was I drove to Greenwich (against all advice!! Tut Tut) and parked in the pay and display next to the park. A quick stroll through security and I was in, the layout compact and efficient with a sense of being super organised.  Fabulous grand stand seating overlooking the purpose built arena with maritime museum as the back drop and London’s finest sky scrappers in the distance.

A great idea to invite the local residents and school children but the echos of “when are they going to jump” met with “Sit still and not today” was such a shame, these children were no more than 8yrs old and I love dressage but wouldn’t subject my worse enemy to 45 tests let alone these poor kids!! Don’t think they will be signing up for riding any time soon. Totally agree with watch some tests but then get the pros to take them out on a course walk that would inspire and engage.

The cross country challenges look as though they lie in the twists and turns of a shortened route.Couldn’t help but think the horses that make their mark with the galloping stretches could find it difficult to get into the swing of things over a short track. However this course will pose many challenges as the lines come thick and fast. Steep hills up and down will sort the men from the boys when its comes to fitness and brakes!

Such a great atmosphere, Greenwich really does lend itself to an invasion of relatively strange equine proportions for a capital city but with every challenge there will be a solution. It  really was a  great day and it was lovely to catch up with lots of people , the general consensus was excellent  just a few minor comments which could easily be sorted including changing the piped back ground music, Call me old fashioned but “You look good on the dance floor ” by the arctic monkeys is never going to catch on during dressage !

A stroll in the park, you never know who you might meet!
